Examining the Evidence
a baseballyarn official ruling

Is it a Chicago Tradition?

In the Old Days. . .
Hot dog vendors automatically slapped mustard on the product
It was in a jar and they smeared it with a piece of wood
The stick was a tongue depressor or something similar
They carried no other condiment with them
If you wanted ketchup you had to leave your seat and . . .
Purchase your hot dog at a concession stand!
|
Nowadays. . .
Vendors carry plastic squeeze bottles of ketchup & mustard!
No little wooden sticks -- (but if they did use them. . .
. . . each stick would be encased in a sterile plastic container)
Walking vendors selling hot dogs are hard to find today
. . . and usually their dogs are barely lukewarm!
Conclusion: Go to the concession stand-- it's less hassle!
|
Bottom line:
There is no "No Ketchup on Hot Dogs" rule in baseball!
Baseball does not discourage fans from putting ketchup on hot dogs!
Be it therefore resolved that "No Ketchup on Hot Dogs" is not a baseball tradition!
|
Why people espouse the "no ketchup" doctrine
You can label the entire pro-ketchup crowd as fake Chicagoans!
. . . letting you display attitude in a pleasingly annoying manner. . .
. . . allowing you to pretend to have inside knowledge. . .
. . . & giving you an easy way to feel superior to others. . .
. . . as you belittle and exclude them at the same time!

Ketchup Lovers
Will put ketchup on scrambled eggs!
Will put ketchup on steaks!
Will put ketchup on anything they feel like
Including hot dogs!
Nobody can stop them-- especially any oafish elitist
who says that putting ketchup on a hot dog is wrong!
|
"No Ketchup on Hot Dogs"
is not a baseball requirement!
It is a baseball option!
If you don't want to put it
on your dog, then DON'T!
It is your choice!
|
"No ketchup on Hot Dogs" is NOT a Chicago tradition! BUT
Making fun of people who put ketchup on their hot dogs
IS a Chicago tradition
|
"No Ketchup on Hot Dogs"
Has no relevance to Chicagoans
Each of us has the option to. . .
. . .put it on or leave it off
It's all up to you! and don't
worry what anyone says!
