Fans had full run of the field for 37 minutes!
Then the police--in full riot gear-- stepped onto the field!
The Sox fans sitting in the stands cheered and applauded!
And the crowd on the field scurried away!
In just 3 minutes the field was clear!
And the great Nancy Faust cranked up the organ:
Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey,
Good-bye!
|
The umps ruled that the field was not suitable for play!
Game 2 of the doubleheader was forfeited to the Tigers!
The media verdict: it was a horror, a tragedy, a disgrace. . .
. . . and it was all Bill Veeck's fault!
Mike Veeck's role was unknown to most people at the time. Here's what he said about it 25 years later:
"I felt terrible. . . My dad had nothing to do with Disco Demolition. All he did was bear the brunt."
|
Traditional White Sox fans. . . objected to the behavior of Steve Dahl's followers and the crudeness of their slogan.
And they were deeply offended that he used a baseball park as the setting for his goofy protest!

FAMOUS DISCO MOVIE
Saturday Night Fever
starring
John Travolta
|
Sox fans may not have liked Steve Dahl, but they didn't disagree with his opinion of disco, and they shed no tears at its later demise

FAMOUS DISCO SONG
Stayin' Alive
sung by
The Bee Gees

Many claim that Disco Demolition Night "killed" disco!
Frankly, we find this quite a stretch!
A musical genre as sappy as disco. . .
. . .would SURELY have died . . .
on its own no matter what Steve Dahl did!
