People who hate baseball love this book! It makes an ideal gift!
They like the Dickens stuff. Especially the baseball spirits and the way they whoosh John through time and space. They like the father/son stuff. John always turns down his son's ideas, and his reasons ain't that good. They like the names of the characters: Nifty Downstreet, Peeler Fitch, Steve Carnivore and all the rest.
They like the baseball spirits-- even though they're all dysfunctional!
Spirit Deirdre calls herself a pro, but she doesn't know who Comiskey was! And Spirit Dave is so paranoid that he doesn't know what town he's in!
They like reading about Little Leaguers and Big Leaguers all in the same book!
