The Logan Squares
1906
Chicago's greatest
baseball year!
The Logan Squares were a Chicago semi-pro team
that were founded by former Sox pitcher, outfielder,
and manager, James J. "Nixey" Callahan.

Callahan left the White Sox after the '05 season.

Apparently he had a disagreement with Comiskey,
but our research-- not very exhaustive-- hasn't
enabled us to verify the nature of their disagreement.

At any rate, Callahan owned the Squares,
and built a good ballclub.
Callahan's ballplayers:

  • 1B Hertel
  • 2B Sandberg
  • 3B Larson
  • SS Lynch
  • LF Long Tom Hughes
  • CF Harrison
  • RF Lippert
  • P Callahan
  • C Reading

  • The Logan Squares played both the Sox
and the Cubs one week after the World Series. . .
    . . . And beat them both!
  • We don't know the first names of the Logan players
  • So far as we can determine none of them ever played
        in the big leagues . . .
  • . . . except for Callahan himself, and Hughes
