10 Differences between 1906 and 2006
1906
Chicago's greatest
baseball year!
Difference

#2
In 1906, the ball was dead!
Lively it wasn't!

  • Fly balls did not carry as far! Or as high!
  • The ball had less bounce than today!
  • The yarn inside the ball wasn't wrapped tightly!
  • Or something like that! It has a lot to do with
physics, a subject we know nothing about!
  • What we do know: There weren't many homers!

    DID YOU KNOW . . .
  • The 1906 baseball weighed between 5 and 5-1/4 ounces--the same as today's ball!
  • It had a rubber core-- later replaced with a cork core-- which may or may not be significant!
  • The Cubs hit only 20 home runs during the regular season, the Sox just seven!
  • Neither team hit a single homer during the World Series!
