Sources and Limitations

1903-1942
We consulted newspapers and almanacs of the City Series Era to:
  • Check box scores of each game
  • Check composite boxes for each series
  • Read play by play accounts (when available) of games
    • Disclaimer
  • Sometimes the composites don't match the box scores!
  • We go with one or the other as best we can!
  • Sometimes we miscopy the information!
  • Sometimes we make dumb mistakes of arithmetic!
  • We can't vouch for our results-- not 100% anyway!
  • But BY AND LARGE we think they're pretty accurate!
    • Bases on balls
  • It's nice to know how many walks a batter received!
  • It helps determine his On Base Average!
  • Luke Appling went 7 for 14 and 5 walks in 1936!
  • Eddie Collins was 8 for 15 and 7 walks in 1921!
  • Talk about killer OBA's!
    • Strikeouts
  • It's also nice to know which batters were strikeout kings!
  • Walks, strikeouts not always covered in old records!
  • We hope to track them down-- eventually!
